Turkey diet, raw or cooked?

savvgawd May 02, 2004 11:32 AM

I recently have been feeding my monitors a new tukey diet(Raw ground turkey, raw eggs, and calium)and they seem to love it. Many people have different opions about this. Some say it is fine to feed them that generally becuase all food in the wild is raw. Others have told me i shouldnt do this, only feed them cooked meat. What are your opinions on this?

Definately cook the eggs if they are store bought to destroy the avidin and possible salmonella bacteria. Agree that insects first and rodents second should comprise the bulk of the food though.

Raw IS fine! I have been giving my monitors raw ground turkey mixed with raw eggs, insects and calciu/minerals. They have been growing like crazy and are FAT and healthy!

I respect your point of view, but I'm not willing to take that chance with the raw eggs. Mike Balsai seems to be an authority on monitors and I trust his opinion on the subject, and besides, in the wild monitors wouldn't normally come across un-embryonated eggs. Mine go crazy for the cooked eggs.
