Baby Sulcata is doing AOK

Dragonchuck May 02, 2004 12:44 PM

Hi everyone,
I know that a few of you have been giving me advise about my tortoise and I appreciate that. However, after close monitoring for the last day or so, I have determined that she will be ok. I soaked him in warm water and did not witness any bubbles or mucus. Her eyes were clear, not teary or swollen. After the soak I made her a nice bowl of collard greens, dandelion greens, bok choi, kale, and napa cabbage (a bok choi relative not a true cabbage). She started eating like a champ, right away. She did a little bit of basking, took a brisk walke around the enclosure and then went to bed. I think I was overeacting and was a little panicky, being a new tortoise "dad" and all.

Thanks Again for all of your help.

Sincerely,
Charlie

P.S. I'm still going to monitor her for a few days. If I do see that she's having a problem I will definitely contact a vet.
Here's a pic of her eating today. She's so adorable.

I'd suggest you drop the Bok Choy. Sulcatas have this unique renal system that really concentrates the salts that result from feeding greens like Bok Choy and spinach... I'm always affraid that it could lead to 'stones' if you are not really careful about the hydration. You can see this a few days after feeding Bok Choy when the little guy is soaked. You usually will see a big increase in the white stuff that the tortoise passes.
