How many assist feedings does it take?!

SPJ01 Jun 15, 2003 10:37 PM

I have a BP holdout from a clutch of 4 in April.
3 have fed on f/t their own without problems and 1 will just not eat. It will only eat if you push the nose of the hopper into it's mouth. I have had to resort to this 3 times since it's first shed. It will not touch live, PK, F/T, or any other food source type/size I have tried. How many times will I have to do this before it will actually strike the prey itself and eat it.
I house all the babies seperately to try and avoid stress and non-feeding issues. Why is this one not feeding regularly like the others? All the setups are identical. How many times does it take before this one will figure out it needs to eat on it's own? I have never had this happen before. Any ideas on how to deal with this would be great. Thanks a bunch.

I knew someone who did this for months....like 4 or 5 actually. Then he realized his baby had enough weight on to let her get a bit hungry and try some live peachfuzzy mice. Put it in front of her hide and left the room. You could just cover the cage. A pinkie rat may work too...live. But not live anything that has teeth it can use. I use the rule of thumb that if it's eyes are open it gets prekilled.
I would give the snake a week or 10 days off and then try a live fuzz.
