HOw do you repair one of these?
The inside membrane is intact.

Gently "push/pull" the edges together & "fasten" them across the break.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but at least it occassionally works, problem is to make sure the membrane is intact. if there's the slightest "leak of yolk" it will proberbly be a waste of time & effort.
You could try to incubate it seperatly BUT remember that the bacteria's can influence the remaining viable eggs.

I have found that the sticky plasters are easier to use by being a more managable.

It also dries right away and doesn't have a lingering oder.

If I compare the egg with the crack to one without a crack, the one that is crackes seems bluish and transparent. Is this still a viable egg?

Your options are......
Throw it away now & stop worrying about it.
Wait for 4 weeks then candle it to be sure.
Alternatly wait the whole term.

either way, good luck

Do not discard it!
Hang on and be patient. I would move it away from the other eggs in the incubator but handle it as little as possible.
Also, reduce the humidity a bit.

ghettozoohouse May 04, 2004 07:11 PM

why decrease the humidity?

mayday May 04, 2004 09:00 PM

Well, I was assuming that since your eggs had cracked or split, that maybe it was because of too high a humidity. This is a common occurrence with tortoise eggs. They will continue to absorb water until they literally split at the seams.
If you decrease the humidity, then the egg will stop expanding and can continue developing.

The have cracks because the momma stepped on them as she was laying them.
