Our Newest Addition...Hypo BRB

wetceal May 02, 2004 10:32 PM

Hello Everyone!

I haven't posted here before (at least not recently), but I just wanted to share our newest addition...a Hypo Brazilian Rainbow Boa!

We just aquired this male Hypo BRB and a 100% het for Hypo female from the East Bay Vivarium. The male is about 3 1/2 feet long and the het female is about 4 feet long. Both should be more than ready to breed next season and we look forward to working on this project! Thanks John and Owen!

Let us know what you think!

Thanks!
Celia

A few full body shots...

A head shot...

Close-up side shot with a normal...

And finally, a comparison shot with one of our normal girls...

We have been considering it and chances are, we will probably get an Anery just to see what the Ghosts look like...that should be exciting and interesting!

Thanks,
Celia

We are planning on breeding our pair this season so we should hopefully have some babies around summer of next year. And you are right...they certainly are EVEN BETTER looking in person!!

A hypo female bred to a 100%het for hypo would mean what exactly?

My quess is...50% hypo and 50% 100% het for hypo?

I'm not educated in genetics. Would your female be considered a phenotype and the male a genotype? Essentially they are both 100% het for hypo, aren't they?

Linda

A Hypo bred to a 100% het will give you 50% hypo and 50% normals that are 100% het for Hypo. The male Hypo would be considered Homozygous for Hypomelanism while the female het would be considered Heterozygous for Hypomelanism. I hope that makes sense...

Thanks,
Celia

Celia,
. I am glad to see you posting here on the Rainbow Boa Forum. I have admired your PICs over on the Boa Forum for quite awhile. I saw John and some of his hypo BRBs at a show a couple years ago. I was surprised that the hypos look almost normal when they are little and get lighter and lighter each time they shed. It looks like you got a really good one. Good luck breeding it in the future.
Jeff

I'm glad to have something to post on this forum now!! We think the Hypos are very unique. I remember seeing them for the first time as babies and thinking..."Wow, these guys look almost like the normals!" But it is amazing to watch them grow and see how much they lighten up and change with each shed. We wanted to get the more yellowish/white line within the EBV Hypos. John picked out the lightest male for us and we think he did a terrific job as well!

We hope to be able to post more often here in this forum from now on. We have a clutch of normal babies due in the next couple of months so hopefully we'll be able to post some nice baby photos!

Thanks,
Celia
