Milksnake Newbie questions...

Antioch May 02, 2004 10:55 PM

Bunch a questions, if you please...

1. I have read the Hondo gets 5 ft and the Pueblan around 3 ft... what is normal size for the Mexican?

2. Are any Milksnakes native to Ohio? If so, which one(s)?

THANKS!

Mexican Milks usually top out about 30 inches although a few large ones can reach 3 feet. I think the record is around 42 inches.
They are smallest in the northern edge of their range (central TX) but gradually get larger as they intergrade with L.t. polyzona in southern Tamaulipas, Mexico (polyzona regularly reach 4 feet).
Most mexican milks in captivity derive from stock around Freer, Texas, I believe. Those snakes don't often break the 3 foot barrier.

The Eastern Milksnake lives in Ohio.
