Anyone know the gas prices at Study Butte right now?

chrish May 03, 2004 02:00 AM

I won't be there, but for those running the river road, it looks like it is going to be an expensive summer.

I don't know. Troy and I are going out in a couple of weeks.
Poor lance can't get out of the Damn house. I pray if you get married that you do so to someone who understands the passion that most of us share with herps. Lance is not so lucky. Her passion is to make lance miserable, and she does an awesome job. Anyway, back to the subject. I bet the price per gallon is well over 2 bucks... How is South Texas? Any more fun that way?

Hope all is well...

Take Care,

Steven O

Cliff,

Thanks for calling. I will call soon when I have more time to talk. I hope Pat and Kim are doing well. Like I have said before, I miss seeing everyone out and about collecting.
I don't miss the crowds on Juno. It sounds like that road is becoming popular again. The tire testers always pissed me off on that road. But it does hold a certain nostalgia for me.
Anyway, I am still waiting to find my first alterna on 277.
I had a blast last year on the RR.

As for lance, he has to fight his own battles. His wife gets on my nerves beyond belief. I keep looking for even one positive aspect about her and I can't seem to find even one.
We all make mistakes I guess...
Well take care,

Steve

so I'm guessing SteveO is right, over $2 in Study Butte.

I carry an extra 5 or 10 gallons w/ me so if I play it right
I never have to buy gas down there. But $1.95 in Alpine is
still bad enough.

I also try not to road cruise at all, preferring to walk on my own
property. That limits gas expenditures and encounters with
folks who might want to interpret my "intent", as I don't
collect anything other photographs anymore.

Best
Joe

I just got back from Big Bend last night. Coming through Sanderson, gas was $1.86/gal, but Roy at the Otback said it had just gone up 10 cents that morning so I actually paid $1.96/gal. Marathon was $1.98/gal. This was on May 1. When I came back home yesterday, May 3, gas was $2.04 and 9 tenths/gal in Marathon. I am sure Study Butte is just as expensive now. I believe I had paid $2.02/gal on the way to LaKiva. My trips will be few and far between this year, and since I never catch anything on the River Road anyway, no big loss, just a gain in my wallet. I was out there on a hiking trip with my cousin and his wife from South Carolina. I was not Herping but I did manage to see a Molossus sunning on the road about 10:00 a.m. in the park as well as a few coachwhips. The night time temps are of course not favorable yet. My suggestion is save your money.

Or 87 cents a liter. It's a real [bleep] getting ANYWHERE....
