Has anyone been burned buying from the classifieds? (more)...

gixer Jun 16, 2003 12:22 AM

I was wondering if anyone has been burned from a purchase on the classified. I have been arranging to buy two dragons from someone that I haven't ever seen post on the classified(they are not a breeder). It is a good deal, but still a lot of money. Here's the scoop there's no pics and the person has been a bit vague in his email replies so I became a bit suspicious. After I said that I would send the a money order to him Monday morning I had a friend email him to try to buy the dragons and he said they are still available. Something just seems a little funny here....

Opinions or comments??

If it were me, i'd back out of it. Sounds too weird. I ALWAYS ask for pictures, and that other stuff...too odd for me

In my opinion, you should only buy from reputable breeders. Ask someone or this forum about them. If you ask for pictures, and they cannot give you any then do not buy.It is worth it to pay more for a dragon from someone that is respectable than get burned from an individual that noone has heard of.

Today's day & age, who ever it is should be able to get a pic, if they don't have a camera they should know someone who does, etc.
No pic, no purchase. It's that simple.

I have bought from 4 different people via [bleep] and through classifieds on this forum, and so far my experience has been good. However, I communicate with the people via e-mail and by phone. Before I actually send any money though I speak with them about 6 times via e-mail and 3 or 4 by phone. I ask alot of questions to ensure that I am getting what I am asking for. If they seem vague I do not buy from them. If in doubt do not buy from the individual. Hope this helps.

Yeah that doesnt sound good. Email me who it is and if I know anything about it, or them, I will email you back what I know. Definately dont send money if you arent comfortable with it. Chris

IT certainly sounds suspicious to me. It sounds like this guy is hoping to get more money out of your friend for the same dragons, or just taking all the money he can and run.

I didn't want to risk getting ripped off or stressing a baby beardie by having it shipped in a box..so I drove to the breeder to get him. I also like the ideal I can take a look at their setup, the health and vitality of the parents and the available babies. Though the person I bought from wasn't a big breeder, her dragons were all healthy and well fed, the enclosure was free of any visible poo and didn't have any strong smells and all looked very lively. SO far the baby I bought from her is very healthy and thriving.
