Housing Pair Together

Kramer010 May 03, 2004 11:47 AM

Any issues with housing a pair together for long term? I understand that they will need to be fed seperatly.

There's the possibility of creating competition (for food, space and hides), there's the possibility of spreading/sharing disease and illness resulting in larger vet bills and/or losing both snakes, there's the possibility of creating stress in one or both (leading to illness, etc)......

And if you house them together, how will you know which fecal/urates belong to which snake - therefore, making it a bit more difficult to monitor their health.

Risks not worth it in my opinion - the health of my snakes is. Just my thoughts.

I house several bp's together and they don't seem to mind. Nevertheless, I would not house new animals with an existing colony. They seem to enjoy each others company as they tend to huddle next to each other constantly.

The animals that are housed together are not of breeding age and I would not suggest housing them as they approach breeding age.

As I don't feed them in their cage, I don't have to worry about substrate lodging in their system as a result from feeding. With that said, it would be best to house them seperately but it should be Ok to house them together until you can acquire adequate housing in order to house them seperately.
