Facts, not opnions about the Mafana morph

Legendcham May 03, 2004 12:27 PM

I have been asked by several people to post some facts about
the new morph that just arrived in the USA. The Mafana is a
morph of the Pardalis, that is found on a small group of islets
that are located off the northwest coast of Madagascar. The name
of the islets is Nosy Mitsio, the climate is hot and arid.
I first became aware of this morph in Jan of 03, when Olof Pronk
described them to me, and told me that they had been found on
a group of small islands off the coast of Madagascar. At the time,
I told him that I was more interested in obtaining his morph that
he labels the Picasso. That is a whole other issue that I will
post on latter. He sent the small group of panthers to Germany,
and named them Soabana. I do not know what Soabana means, but
he has every right to name the morph what he wants. Aline Imports
just recieved a group of the same morph, and named them, Mafana
which is a Malagasy word for HOT. The panther was given this name
because of the climate that they are found in. Although I do not
outright own them, I am working with a 3.4 group of them right
now. They display a neon lime green, with red eyes when at rest.
They have non distinct barring, and fire a beautiful neon yellow
with the red. They love the sun, and will spend hours basking,
unlike most of the other morphs. The two exporters that have made
this new morph available, have been upfront about the location
that they were collected from. Mr.Pronk no longer has a interest
in exporting to the USA, so the w/c breeding stock will only be
available from Aline Imports. Offspring should be available
around this time next year. Vince from Screameleons, is currently
working with this new morph. I am working with this morph for
my friend and partner Shelly of Lizard Lair. I have sold off my
own breeding stock because of a new direction that I am taking
in life. I sincerely hope that the chameleon community will support the efforts, of dedication of time, money etc. of this
new exciting morph. Chameleons are one of the most facinating
and beautiful creatures found on this planet. Let's show respect
for the people working with them! Price does not dictate worth.
Sincerely,
Lane Gergely

Lane,

You say you were asked by a few people to post facts about this new locale of Panther? Well pretty much everything fact wise you posted has already been posted and discussed by Ivan just a short while ago. It seems to me that your post was more of a "I wanna be heard" post. Now I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like to me.

While I think everyone definitely has their own choices on what is beautiful and what they want to work with I personally find the new locale Soabana/Mafana/Mitsio etc. ugly. They to me, look like an overheated Nose Be`. No one is showing anyone that wants to work with this new locale animal disrespect, they have just posted their opinions just as you have and they all have the same right to post their opinion as you or I do. You may think they are worth spending the high prices on while I and some others find it outrageous to price them that high. All opinions stated are just that opinions, none any better or worse than the other.

I agree with everything rob just said.

Except for the fact that everyone has their oppinion...thesheriff guy....just a fight picker...no one should even read his posts, they are all the same.

Oh and didnt the guy who posted the picture of the soabanna last year describe their local and all that good stuff last year? With all the people that looked at that picture you'd think everyone would know this stuff already. The only thing I'm interested in knowing is when they breed are the offspring mortality rates as high as the pinks were to start with.
