Installing Flex watt in a custom rack unit... Help

smsnakes May 03, 2004 12:43 PM

I have built a stack able level rack, They look like tables with a peg board top.
How it works is, the tub lays on the board then the next level is put on and so on.
They have 2x4 running the length of them and in the middle the peg board is on top making it look like a table. with 2x4 under supports that keep the tubs lids secured.

My question on installing flex watt.

Can I install it under the peg board.
Will it heat the wood enough??
Any other ways??

I think I understand the design...

You're wanting the heat to transfer through the pegboard and up into the box above? If so that's probably asking the heat tape to do a lot of work.

Perhaps build each tier about 1/8" taller. Have strips of 1/8" hardboard the boxes slide on and then place your heat tape inbetween these strips.

This will give an air space for the heat tape (always a good idea) and will have the tape directly underneath the box.

I hope I understood your design and I hope my suggest makes sense.

I am going to need to try an post some pictures of what have going on. It is so hard to explain. Yup, the flexwatt would be under the pegboard and the sterilite boxes rest on top.

I'm happy to help nonetheless.

Look forward to see the final product. I designed a rack like this for very large boxes but never got around to building it.

Yes it is a HUGE rack! It works Great. Stackable to any size. 4 tubs wide. 6'x 8' I use the 96 liter. But now to heat it?

Mind if I swing out and take a look at it? Might give me some ideas for my next rack. I might also be able to give an idea re. the heat.

I'm in Lincoln but am not sure if I'll have time to come out even if it's okay.
