African Albino with bumps and red around one eye..HELP!!!

Lisa197174 May 03, 2004 01:50 PM

I have a male african albino for a year. He was very healthy and still has a great appetite. A week ago I noticed he had red around one eye and I thought maybe he had gotten startled and banged into something. During the course of this week I noticed behind the back of his head is a little puffy and he has a lump on his back too. The one behind his head (which is directly behind the red spot on his eye)seems to be getting bigger. Is there anything that can be done to treat an aquatic frog and what is it? He is in a 10 gallon well filtered and heated tank. Coincidentally this started after I gave him crickets for the first time as I only had given him pellets up to this point.

He may have gotten an infection. Potentially redleg. You can buy a product from www.xenopus.com that will introduce new bacteria that will outcompete the bad bacteria, the main causers of redleg. This will only be useful after treatment. Take him to the vet ASAP. I have done this before. Its not fun, as ACFs are difficult to restrain. But they were given injections just like every other animal, if needed.

You may need to take a necropsy (is that whats its called) or a sample of the sore for the doctor to check out for you whats causing it. Clawed frogs are very tough. They recover much more readily than other frogs, so try to remain calm.
