Would it be ok to cool blue tongue skinks down if...

reptaphille May 03, 2004 02:53 PM

a person was to go on vacation? Would my vet possiably take care of them while Im away? That way(if you cooled them down) you wouldnt have to feed them. Ive got no one to take care of them while Im gone like the last post said. Id say the longest time Id be away is 2 weeks, more like a week and I dont take very many vactions so it wouldnt be like Id cool them down all the time. Thanks for any info on this. Nate

Hey Nate!

Personally, I believe it's ok to do this. Some keepers may say it'll throw out your Blueys seasons or some garb, But if it is only a week to 2 weeks - I'm sure it'll be ok. I live about an hour outside of Melbourne City, on the Mornington Peninsula in Australia. We have HEAPS of Blueys here, yet the temps and weather conditions are constantly changing. It'll be a beautiful warm sunny 20oC by say 11am, by 3pm it'll have dropped to like 12oC. This may not seem like a big jump - but with being near the water, plus rain etc.., It's no wonder they say Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day. Now the point to all that was that Blueys adapt well. Your Bluey should be fine as long as you provide clean water. To do this - you could try those water feeder thingies that people with mice or rats use. Someone on this board uses one and posted a pic of their Bluey drinking from it.

Anyway - Enough of my babble - Hope this helps you out somewhat.

Luke.

Oh, and another thing!

Wouldn't hurt to whack about 5 crickets in with your bluey too. That way at least if hunger kicks in, there are some snacks running around. I advise against a big feed before you leave though. Poopy, Smelly enclosures are no good for your lizard and no good for your nose when you return.

Thanks for the help Luke. Your lucky to be able to own those blotch blue tongues. Are those the blues that you say are all over the place in Australia? Nate
