Is it possible to keep different types of newts of the same genius or keep clawed frogs with them if i have a large tank of 40gal or more?
It is not recommended. There are several reason but one is that C. orientalis is the smallest of the genus and most likely to predated upon or outcompeted by the other members of the genus.
Xenopus prefer warmer waters and you have the same problems where the newts are at risk of predation (Xenopus get much much larger) or being outcompeted for the food items.
If you feel the need to add other animals to the tank, the small glass shrimp, feeder guppies or white clouds can be used as tankmates but if they are small enough the newts may predate upon them. Also these animals add to the bioload of the tank, which can make it more difficult to keep clean.
