ADF's and ACF's...help and recomendations.....

lilroach56 May 03, 2004 07:43 PM

I have an empty 10 gallon aquarium and am wanting to put either fish or another herp/s in it. i like frogs and have always been interested in ADF's and ACF's. I used to keep 2 ADF's but they died due to high ammonia and nitrite levels (gravel....) and not feeding. I was wondering how many ADF's or ACF's i could keep in a 10 gallon aquarium. What i should use for filtering? any deco needed? which is easier to take care of? what should i feed them? are ACF's as readily available as ADF's? any good info sites on either of those?

I have 3 ADF's in a tank, they are pretty hardy. I have live and fake plastic plants in the tanks with a few fish as tankmates. I also have a cave which the frogs love and a lego tower with a flat rock, making a platform. Which comes halfway up, yet still completely below water level. They are easy to feed. Mine tend to love Shrimp Brine and Blood Worms. The water is heated with a under gravel filter system. Also they are comic, they tend to always want to be where the other frog is, so it's alot of shoving and whatnots, but it's all safe. Hope this helps

How deep is the water?
are the brine shrimp/bloodworms live? are they readily available as live food?
do you know of any other foods?
can you sex them?
what live plants?
water temps?

I have my tank completely filled, it's a fully aquatic frog. Don't handle them much, and they will dry out if they leave water. Brine Shrimp comes in a pellet form. The blood worms come frozen. Make sure they are completely thawed before feeding the frogs have a delicate digestive system. As for plants I have many different varieties. Frogs love the different surround and play with each item. I have a few free floating plants they love to dive bomb on I also have a few strands of algae plants. I keep the temp at around 75 hopefully your temp gauge will come with a green area highlighting the perfect temp range for freshwater tropical animals. Just stay in that range and you'll be fine. As for sexing them that's a tough one. The female will have a bump on her rear end. Almost reminds you of a dog tail stump. And the male will chirp or make sounds. However, you won't be able to tell the sex until they are abit older. There are alot of other live foods you can feed the frogs but I suggest you wait on those until they are abit older and bigger. They are pretty tiny things when you get them young. I have one no bigger then my pinky nail. Have fun and I hope this helps.
