Noises during foreplay?

4everherpn May 03, 2004 08:16 PM

I was wondering if you hear noises from your leos during courtship? I have yet to see it in action, but I hear it all the time. It seems one of my males will vibrate his tail on a plastic flowerpot. It makes a noise so loud that it woke me up once when I was sleeping. Of course there is the common scurrying and running around.

Any other strange stories?

While geckos can vocalize, I think leos mainly vocalize only when scared. They make a little clicking type sound. I've never heard them make any noise other then the shuffling around of the male subdueing the female.

I've heard the clicking sound before in one of my unpaired leo females. I thought was because she was alarmed. I do not bother my leos much. I let them go wild except for the food and water changes.

Mostly there is scurrying around and such - I have a plastic tree that will sometimes get knocked over. Also, tail vibrating is very normal. If a males is doing it in a clear area (i.e. - not hitting a flower pot), is sounds and looks like a rattlesnake! It can be loud, compared to their usual silent selves.
Other than the tail shake, I do not believe they are "supposed" to make other noises while courting.

My geckoes are all talkers. I have an aggressive breeder male from JeremyL, who vibrates his tail (just the tip) at the girls to let them know he's interested. It has woken me up once or twice too. Also my girls have been heard chirping, I'm not sure what to call it, but vocalizing often. I'm not sure why and have yet to see how they do it, but I did have one that I was rehabbing who literally screamed @ me the way babies are said to. She opened her mouth wide and let it rip! She DIDN'T want to be touched. She's better now, and hasn't screamed @ me for a while. Anyone seen them chirp? Or know why?
