Just curious....anyone here a musician?....

-ryan- May 03, 2004 08:31 PM

I was just a little curious if there were any musicians out on this board. I play percussion (drums, mallets, etc). I've got a crap load of stuff to do this week too. I've got to study tons of music theory so I don't screw up on the AP music theory test this wednesday, and I've got to play some solos tomorrow (snare drum and mallet), as well as recieve a drum lesson on wednesday, give two on thursday, and tend to everything else that I need to do (take care of reptiles, school, homework, girlfriend, etc.). it may not seem like much at all to do, but considering I'm in 10th grade and I'm usually running short on time as it is, this brings a whole new level of stress (can't wait till college...right).

All this has left me with no time to do band practices in any of my bands either.

So, I was just wondering if anyone here was/is a musician and what their schedule seems to be lately (whether or not it even has much to do with music I guess). I know this post is nearly completely pointless, but I'm bored. This is the one night I'll be bored this week, so I should be enjoying it, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

Ive played guitar for five years. Not professionally or anything. At private school next year im gonna be in the rock band.

I've been getting bored lately so I've taken up the guitar. So far all I know are a handful of good tunes, a handful of bad tunes, open chords, some bar chords, power chords, and limited soloing abilites (very limited), but it's cool to start guitar after playing percussion for so long. It's sort of a whole different aspect of music really.

I'm currently in 2.5 bands. I say 2.5 because one band, the one that I liked most, mainly because we're so different compared to other music around here, has basically broken up but will probably show up every once in a while around our native town. We have some crappy sound clips on the website at www.luckynumbers.cjb.net
The singing isn't very strong, but I personally think we sound great live. I'm in another band that is basically two of the other kids from that band plus me, and this other kid on bass. For that band we went more towards an indie rock sort of thing I guess. It's really wierd but really cool. I just hope that gets off the ground soon. Then the other band is just me and these two other kids. They're great guys, though they need to work on some stuff a lot, but i have faith in them getting better.

Besides that I'm also in band and jazz band at school (next year it will be the school's wind ensemble and jazz ensemble, which are basically the best musicians the school can offer...that bothered to try out). So I guess you could say 4.5 bands, but I don't really count school stuff. I also might be doing some recording with some other local musicians this summer. It should be fun.

What kind of music are you into?

I front a band- I sing and play bass. I used to play bass in jazz band at school, but noe I just play trombone in the symphonic band. I have a lot of AP finals right now-3- and everything is really nuts, but I have a femme uro arriving this week, so I'm stoked.

can join in some jams with my hubby,(plays guitar) and his friends) They play rock, but play blues also !

They thought a harmonica would sound neat.

So I'm learning !

I always wanted to learn harmonica. How are you learning? This summer I'm going to take on some extra instruments. I'm going to keep working on drums as usual, but do more studies in jazz, latin, and fusion drumming, learn more mallet stuff, get better at guitar, learn harmonica, learn the basics of bass guitar, and probably learn the basics of trumpet. I'd also like to learn piano if I have the extra time, because that would be a lot of help when I go to audition for colleges.

have to learn notes, and mouth positioning , have not looked at notes for years, so thats all quite new again. But I like the way they sound.

Funny I always loved those western scenes in movies.

All the cowboys, turning in for the night, the last few sat at the campfire, while one played the harmonica softly!
