cozumel - what is it?

paulbuckley May 03, 2004 09:12 PM

cozumel mexico - seemed like a possible rear fanged colubrid, but i could be off as i really dont have a clue. whip thin with orange brown body and very dark brown triangular saddles. top of head patternless except for stripe coming off the eye. found 3 of them around 8:00 all on the ground following curbs. eliptical pupil, very calm though one did skunk me - no attempt to bite or aggressive posture; they not even flee upon release. all very thin and i thought they looked arboreal but they were always on the ground and holes in the sidewalk were always close by. all around 24 inches. dry chapparral environment in resort parking lot and resort grounds.

i'd post a picture if someone tells me how. i know i'm probably being dense, but i cant see any jpg options...
