Some people use a UVB during the day just in case. However the general attitude is its a waste as they hide all day in nature .
While most of the information out there says that uv bulbs are not required sticking with the theory that nocturnal animals do not use uv to metabolise calcium. I have a trio of females that are kept in a heavily planted enclosure. The enclosure is lighted with full spectrum flouresent bulbs to maintain the plants. On many occasions I have observed the geckos "basking" directly under the lights during the day. ???? I also keep many geckos in rubbermaid enclosures with no lighting and they are doing fine as well. Are the animals receiving a benefit from this "basking" behavior?? I do not know, no science here just an observation.

I use a red light above my enclosure .It raises the temps up about 5 or 6 degrees .My cresties seem to enjoy sitting in it for short periods of time. Its of course a guess but im thinking they like a warm spot once inawhile.
