getting my gecko finaly

rttlrvenom May 04, 2004 06:16 AM

mabe to day, mabe tomorrow, but hopefully today.

Im getting it at a pet store in my town, i would say this is a good pets store because i have gotten two cornsnakes from there and they are and were healthy and growning and never refused a meal.

now my question is the gecko im looking at is a little leo, he/she looks healthy but i havent had a real good (hands on) look at it yet. do i look at the tail and see if it thick or thin, i ask ...because this leo is a hatchling and still pretty small. how long does it take to get a leo use to its new surroundings, im doing a reptiles meeting for a scout troop next monday and would like to bring him/her to show along with my snakes.

Hey,

I think you'll like owning a leo, they're loads of fun! Also, when going to buy a leopard gecko you should mainly watch out for sickly looking leos-- Lethargic and crusting around the eyes and nose. If the leo's eyes appear bright and alert that is usually a good sign of a healthy leopard gecko. If you can, ask if they will drop a cricket or two into the tank so you can see if the leo is a good eater(Sometimes pet stores have a policy where they don't feed the animals in front of people). Those are a few tips when looking at Pet Store leos-- Or just looking at purchasing leos in general. Sometimes leopard geckos won't eat for up to two weeks when stressed from being moved around, so give your little guy time. Try feeding him shortly after you bring him home, but if he doesn't eat leave him alone for a few days and try again. It's almost guarenteed that they leo will eat, so don't worry. Good luck with your gecko and don't forget to keep up posted.
