Florida permit fee changes - more details

blove Jun 16, 2003 07:59 AM

Florida Senate Bill 2388, effective June 12, 2003, has increased 7 Florida wildlife license fees, the first three of which impact herps. This is official now, and came straight from their staff:

Wildlife exhibition or sales - from $5 to $150 (Lic. code EPA, less than 10 specimens dealt annually) or from $25 to $250 (Lic. code EPB, more than 10 specimens dealt annually). This effectively means you need this license to sell at any Florida herp show now.

Wildlife (potentially dangerous) as personal pets - from $100 to $140 (These would be the permits for Class I and Class II wildlife.)

Venomous reptile permit - from $5 to $100

Does this apply to non-residents who come in to particiapte in an occassional show or does it apply to everybody that particiaptes?

Bill -

I think that what passed was upping it to $150 and $250 for only Class I and II wildlife. They amended it to include a category for unlimited Class III only for $50. That would cover reptiles at least.

I don't think I'm wrong, but navigating the legislature's convoluted documents is not easy.

We just need to ask Paul Moler.

From the cited document:

"c) For any number of Class III individual specimens in the aggregate of all species, the sum of $50 per annum."

Non-venomous herps fall into this category, I thought.

The rates have changed but the price for Class III is $50 and Class I & II are as Bill Stated. Below is the actual statements.

(a) For not more than 25 Class I or Class II 10 Class

20 I, Class II, or Class III individual specimens in the

21 aggregate of all species, the sum of $150 $5 per annum.

22 (b) For over 25 Class I or Class II 10 Class I, Class

23 II, or Class III individual specimens in the aggregate of all

24 species, the sum of $250 $25 per annum.

25 (c) For any number of Class III individual specimens

26 in the aggregate of all species, the sum of $50 per annum.

27

28 The fees prescribed by this subsection shall be submitted to

29 the commission with the application for permit required by

30 subsection (1) and shall be deposited in the State Game Trust

31 Fund.

I have always paid for the EPB license authorizing sales of class 3 reptiles except venomous. This is the license that most folks buy in order to sell at herp shows. If I read the law change correctly, this is going from 25 to 50 a year. Anyone with any questions on what you need and how much, you can call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at (850) 488-6253.

This means a lot of people will be letting their permits lapse.
I guess that is what they are trying to accomplish.

My earlier post about raised permit fees was based directly upon an email from Paul Moler at the GFC just a day or so before I posted it. Upon checking both Dan Pearson and Rob Trenor's info, they are apparently correct that things changed at the last minute, and the 'dealer' license (25 or more animals vended per year) for non-Class I and II animals will be $50 per year now, not $250. Again, I've just asked Paul to clarify by email. I am aware, but should note for the record, that Paul is NOT in law enforcement, and this is not his main area of concern. My referal to him about it was mainly because he was here recently, so he seemed like the most convenient person in the GFC to ask.
