Tricked him into Brumation?

Priest May 04, 2004 11:59 AM

His tank was getting quite hot the last week or so (because of the weather) so I decided to cool it off by turning down the light, and closing the blinds. Since I have done that, he has been digging holes in the tank and sleeping almost all day, only becoming active if I bath him or handle him. Could the sudden drop on temp and light trick him into thinking it’s winter and he is starting to brumate? The basking/hot spot was getting up to 106-115 (and he was almost always over toward the cool side) so I turned it down to 90-95ish with the cool spot being around 85. So… could that have tricked him into thinking it was winter?

Thanks

Joe

might want to try and bring the temps on the warm side up a bit to at least 100. My uneducated guess is maybe the closing of the blinds might of contributed a little. He might have been able to see out and see the sun and such and now its not there? Just a guess.

mine did the same thing and it really freaked me out because everyone told me he wasn't old enough to go into burmation at under a year old, and it lasted for about 6 months. we had to syrynge feed him all that time because no one was sure. but now that its summer he is back to normal and eating fine again.
