Cleaner fish

turtlemoon May 04, 2004 12:09 PM

I want to buy some cleaner fish for my tank and I was wondering what kinds would be good. I don't have any algae yet so does that mean I shouldn't get any plecos? Are there any fish that will eat food that is left flying around or maybe some turtle poop. My turtles even help with eatting some of their poop. I know that fish will produce more waste but maybe it won't break up into a million pieces when I try to scoop it out. I also understand that fish will also need special fish food and that they can't live off of poop and leftovers alone.

not having algae doent mean you cant get a pleco it just means you will need to put food in whether it is algae wafers or slices of cucumber.

Be careful when buying a plecko too. Size DOES matter. If you get the plecko too small, the turtle will nip at it and keep tryin to eat it. If its too big, the plecko may attach itself to the turtle shell and drown him. We have a RES and a Plecko pretty similar in size. We feed the plecko zucchinni slices and he loves them. Helps w/the tank and especiall algae and snails. Its pretty funny too, cuz the plecko will often push the turtle out of his home.. hehe .. Hope this helps
