splitcanoe May 04, 2004 02:08 PM

my wife just found a baby painted turtle about 1 week ago and so far it hasn't ate. i think it must have just come out of hibernation as we are located in mich. and i just started seeing turtles in ponds the last 3-4 weeks. how long can it go without eating before i should be concerned? also what is best for a new born? ,about size of a quarter, as far as food goes. thank you, jim

Honestly I think you should let it go, hatchling painted turtles often fail and die in captivity. They need much heat and alot of UV light for their shells to form the right way. They need fed everyday with fish, chicken, turtle food, worms, just about anything they can fit into their mouths they'll eat.
