I have had my Tegu about 3 weeks now and has only gone in his cage once. I have him on a schedule and it seems to work well with him. I have read here that Tegus seem to get used to and like schedules. He seems to like to sleep all day and be out at night. Around 6-7 I take him out and put him in the bathroom and leave him until he unloads. I haven't been able to get him to always to hit the paper so I am not sure about the litter training. I believe I have read here where some people have had good luck as some will pick a spot and keep using it. Once Lucky is big enough I plan on giving him a whole room and hope he picks a spot Good luck!

Currently Lucky is 18" and growing over an inch a week.

Thanks, lucky is really pretty, I have carpet in my room so would it be hard to clean up the mess (if he and she make it) or will I need a proper cleaner. Or do you think it would be a good idea to take up the carpet and have a wooden floor intead. Also are tegus like cats and scrath the furniture etc.

I have wood floors in my apartment. I have heard you need to be careful with carpet and your tegu’s nails and toes getting stuck in the carpet. From everything I have read and seen a Tegu doesn’t climb much and that is the only reason I could think of them harming your furniture.

Thanks alot. I will ask my mum about taking up the carpet, and try and tidy up my room abit so there isnt so much clutter. Is it ok to place two tegus together in the same room (male and female) they are siblings.

Sticky tongue calcium dusted crickets and I offer some type of fruit every day. Oh yea, the crickets large full grown and I offer about 10-15. He seems to like strawbarrys most then grapes, banana and hasn’t touched the kiwi. I give him a large marble sized turkey ball with calcium and Rep-cal Herptivite multi mix in it every second or third day.
