Having trouble shedding

mom2autumnnreign May 04, 2004 02:33 PM

Russia seems to be having trouble shedding.....she didnt lose it all in one strip like shes supposed too....she just started the rubbing around the cage thing last night....she rubbed all over the place...shes got a olive branch in there which is pretty rough for her to help get it off...I also "slightly" misted the cage wall on one side and gave her a humide hide w/ slightly misted moss....she seems to have gotten all the skin off her head...but theres still some stuck on her body...do I need to do anything else???...I'm tring to let her get it off on her own...because I just got her and dont want to freak her out.....btw I cant really tell when shes getting ready to shed....because shes an albino and very light colored anyway.

put her in a small container with luke warm water so she can soak for about 15min then wet your hands and let her crawl though them and with gentle presure as she crawls though your hands the shed will come off.

It won't hurt her and should not stress her. some snakes don't like to soak if she freaks out just take her out and mist her and then wet your hands. most of my snakes LOVE to soak. my albino only craps when I soak her makes for easy cage cleaning

After a couple of times shedding you will be able to tell. Usually corns wont give you any shedding problems but in cases such as this you can use Shed-Ease. You just mix a little with some luke warm water and soak them for a few minutes. The skin will usaully come off pretty easily but you never want to just pull the skin or you will risk removing some scales. Just do like the other poster suggested and let the snake do most of the work. Good luck.
