Saw him again

maneatingorchid May 04, 2004 02:48 PM

I saw my mali uro, who has been hiding under a hot tub, again today, unfortunatley I wasn't quick enough and he ran under. This week is going to be in the 90s, so he'll probably be out and about.

After 15 days on the lamb, he's back in the tank. I got him while he slept under the lamp. He's skinny and slow, but alert and exploring a bit and will see he vet. Is there anything I can do to reduce stress on him and get him beack to his normal self?

April-

Hurrah and congratulations! My suggestions would be to make sure his temps are good and maybe give him a warm soak in case he's dehydrated. Leave him be as much as possible to rest and recuperate. These aren't medical suggestions, it's just what I would do.

I don't know if I'd go giving him a warm soak...that can dehydrate them more sometimes...Uros are built for desert temps, and being able to survive without water for days and days. I would say just offer him some veggies and get back to the normal routine of things. I wouldn't play with him too much either let him settle back into his home for a bit he's probably stressed.

Just my opinion.

Hey Chris!

How does that dehydrate them more? I'm curious, as I've not heard that before. Mine usually drink when they soak (at least the Saharans do).

Thanks!

Glad that you found him! I would have to say YES on the possibility of being dehydrated. 15 days is a LONG time for a uro depending on his size, age, weight, etc. Yes..they can go long periods without water and food..but 2 weeks..depending on his size..COULD be a huge factor.

I'd still soak him...sure as heck won't hurt him (and never heard of it making them worse..thats a new one to me).

Good luck!

Whew, long 15 days hunh ? Bet your a little less stressed yourself, now that this ordeal has turned out well !

I would have to agree about leaving him quiet for awhile, to re- adjust to his surroundings!

if it were me, I would probably put him in a tub and see if he would drink also ! I know when I put mine in water after a while they always drink too !

Well, glad to hear hes back in his tank safe and sound!

Keep us posted !
