Hey everybody. My turtle Spike has clear/white stuff coming off of his skin and I was wondering if this was normal. I've seen it before but not this bad, his water is the right temperature and I am not overfeeding him (atleast I think I'm not). So my question is, is this shedding, is he ok, and if not what do I do? Thanx

Some shedding is normal, but if it is visible, he probably is overfed. How much does he get fed?

Does shedding occur on the shell too? My hatchling has some whitish spots on his shell.

I was feeding him (her?) some Reptomin pellets everyday until a few weeks ago when I started doing it every other day but I also added lettuce and veggies to his diet. There is no shedding on shell.

How many pellets every other day? Mine usually shed their skin if they eat a large meal, like if I give them an earthworm or something.

I give him/her 5 pellets, I think my turtle is about 2 years old.

Wow...I think i'm feeding mine way too much. 4 pellets in the morning, 4 pellets at night. He's 2 inches.

as far as i have heard...you are only supposed to feed your turtle the amount of food that would fit in his head (not sure about the neck)... my one turtle is about 2 inches long, and i feed him about 3 pellets every other day with greens offered everyday! you also have to remember to vary their diet! they like to eat feeder fish, earthworms, chicken... but it definitely sounds like you are overfeeding your turtle! i have heard that the babies dont need fed everyday, only every other day! but i definitely offer greens and sometimes pieces of carrot everyday! they also need calcium... i do this by getting a cuttle bone from the pet store (for birds) break off the hard backing, break the inner part into pieces... and put a few pieces in once a week or so... usually i judge this by whenever the pieces disappear. sometimes they eat it, and sometimes they leave it go, but the good thing is that it dissolves in the water, so they are also getting calcium that way if they leave it dissolve! sorry.... didnt mean for this to be a book! hope this helps....
