I have a few questions about Loggerhead musks

magicalt May 04, 2004 03:34 PM

1. Will they do well in the same kind of environment as a red-ear slider? I have a 60 gallon tank that I set up and would like to know if a loggerhead would do well in that setup. (i.e. swimming area and basking area)

2. are loggerheads aquatic like red-ears?

3. what is the main difference between a mud and musk?

Thank you for your time!

1. If they are given resting areas, they will do fine in a setup similar to that of an RES. I plan on housing my adult loggerheads with a DBT and RES later on this year.

2. Loggerheads are very aquatic. Mine only bask 3 or 4 times a week.

3. Mud turtles have a hinge on their plastron and can close up. Also mud turtles NEED shallower water than musk turtles. Mud turtles can and will drown if the water is too deep for them. Musk turtles can tolerate deep water areas. The exception to this is striped mud turtles, which seem to do fine in deeper water.
