sexing

eunectes4 May 04, 2004 06:34 PM

I am trying to sex my friends 2 ft ball python. its spurs are pretty large.
i tried using my second smallest probe but it wasnt ball point so i switched
to my smallest ball point to be more careful. It looks like it is about 5 scales in
this seems like one of those "iffy" ones, suggestions..thanks in advance

Spur size in balls isnt an accurate way to sex your animal, at 5 scales its likely a female. I`ll be at the show on the 16th if you want me to sex it for you. Mark

Its about two feet mark...if it was female I was going to see if you wanted it. It is pretty young though. My friend is losing interest and it is kind of an interesting one...pretty much broken stripe but some of the spots on its back are super tiny and it hase quite a few chocolate colored spots. For sure could not be bred for at least another year and probably should be longer, I don't breed them though so who knows. Since it is only like 2 ft I didnt get a perfect count, just a rough thumb marking and it was like right in between where I would figure male or female, sucks because I don't have much probing experience and I got this tricky one right away...Im going to try again later. One of my roomates next year owns it so I wouldn't be taking it to the next watson show unless you were interested...if not I was just going to make him keep it and I would help him out next year as far as care.

I have a 600grm female that probes 5 also. I was not sure by just probing at first (males should go at least 8-10) so I popped it and it's a girl.

I don't want to pop it, my friend Sarah swears she can sex 100% without popping or probing by just looking at spurs and tail base. I know I have a girl that probed 4 scales and has big spurs. I just don't know if this is a good age to tell be features because it could be too young and it seems too old to pop. And it's probeing down the center so its baffling me right now...but it isnt my snake so I guess i shouldn't care too much.
