wow thats awesome, what is it made out of? and how long did it take?
The white stuff is polythyrene. I used liquid nails to glue the pieces together. I bought some tile grout and put it on all over the hide and then used a tile grout sealant so the grout wouldn'r dust off or anything... I got all of my information from http://708designs.netfirms.com/customcage/customcage.htm
a really great website showing everything step-by-step. I am just now posting the pictures of the completed hide... I think it looks great except that I didn't smooth the grout where the supports meet the bottom so their are a couple gaps.. still trying to decide if I should re-grout the gaps or not... thanks by the way...
Being my first attemp at creating a natural-looking rock hide, I am pleased with what turned out... unfortunately, in my rush to get it done, I didn't smooth out the tops and bottoms of the supports or where the supports meet the "main" platform so it looks a bit off balance. Sorry the photo is alittle dark...

Sweet....How long did it take for the grout to dry? I pattern my rocks after slate, I like the flattened look. I may try something like yours later in a bearded dragon cage. I still have about 40 pounds of grout left.
I did four layers of grout... the first was almost like water, that took only about an hour or two with a fan, and then the layers were increasingly thick... avg. time for each layer to dry was probably about five hours with a fan. I let the grout sit another 30 or so hours before I put on the sealant. 3 layers of sealant, about an hour and a half apiece.

This is after the 1st thin layer. I use a thicker consistancy for the second layer. Then I seal it. I also use the paint that looks like granite (forgot the name!) to add more texture. I will probably try sand in the sealant instead of the paint even though I can get different colors with the paint. These are done the same way as you did yours except with fewer layers (thinner layers). I am way too impatient to use the thicker layers, but I do like the look of your rocks...awesome job!
I really like that look... I might have to try that in another one of my set-ups
wow great job
....but most things in nature are not generally balanced huh?....beautiful job.
