Hi there

jeune18 May 04, 2004 07:19 PM

hey all
i have been horning in on all the forums lately seeing what all these other reptiles are about. i own three collared lizards and i wanted to get another type of lizard, probably in like a year from now. i thought that i was pretty dead set on a uromastryx (spelling?)but today this girl in a good local pet store made me hold a subadult bearded dragon. now i am completely torn. does anyone happen to own both and can make a recommendation? i know a year is a long way off but i wanted to buy pieces of the habitat over time since i am a poor grad student (with well-fed and spoiled reptiles)
thanks

Import Uros can be found readily. so if you get a Uro, be careful who you get it from. You cant get import BDs but make sure you buy from a reputable breeder and that you are not getting an inbred, sickly, undersized or underage animal.

hey thanks for the info. exactly what age no longer constitutes underage so i can be sure to ask the breeder about it, if i decide on the beardie. so most uros are wild caught or does importing not necessarily mean wild caught?
thanks again

there are some breeders but they can be tough to breed if you dont know what to do. There are a lot of imports and wild caught that have all types of parasites.

as a general rule of thumb, baby beardies should be 6 weeks or 6".

I have had euro's in the past and decided to try a dragon this time. Both animals make a great pet for herp lover. They both are very docile and easy to tame down. Both love eating greeens so no need to make sure you have crickets or mice all the time in the house.

Get the one that you find the most intriging and you will be happy.
