Tempgun from tempgun.com

Does anyone on here own one of these? I just rec'd it in the mail. I have MANY digital thermometers all over Herman's enclosure. The basking area ranges anywhere from 88-94 (its a heat emitter). I have another heat bulb and under that it stays at 85. The hide on the warm side stays at 88-90. The cool side is at 75. I've been keeping the temps up because he was sick with the URI. Anyhow, those are the temps that the digitals are reading. I took the temps with this new tempgun and all my temps are reading 10 degrees cooler and for a tort such as a leopard, that is a significant difference... Now I don't know what to believe! I raised the heat emitter up a few degrees so that now it is ranging from 90-95. He hardly goes under it - usually comes out, explores, eats and then goes back the the hide. Anyone ever experience this with a tempgun?

I don't know about the temp guns, but those digital thermometers are usually pretty accurate, within a few degrees at least. I have quite a few of them in my herp room (aka my son's bedroom, lol), and the room temperature they show only varies by a few degrees. Is there any way you can test the gun on an absolutely known temperature somewhere?

If it's the infra red gun which "shoots" a red spot then heres a poss chance of testing it.
Your FREEZER compartment should be around -15c, whilst the salad bar in the fridge 5c.
It's just a guide but you could leave your other therms in both places & then test with the gun after a known period, ie 1 hr.

I have a UK version & am happy with it, BUT you must remember that they record "SURFACE" temps not inner body temps.
