Darts & Termites

Hi guys,

I am starting a culture of subterranean termites in anticipation for a trio of D. Azureus. Are these subterranean's ok or should I try a different species like the dampwood termites? I've read somewhere that dampwoods are a bit larger. Would that pose as a problem? Any help about feeding termites to darts would be appreciated very much!

Thanks!

I found some termites in a wood pile the other day and fed them to my young Leucs and Tincs. The biggest ones were about 3/8" and the frogs couldn't get enough of them!

Living in the South, termites are easy to find behind the bark of "slash" pine trees and in downed branches year round.

When collecting: I put the termites in an all-plastic container with tiny holes in the lid, add some uneaten bits of wood, if there is enough wood, and the insect load isn't extremely high you can keep termites alive for several days this way.

For feeding I seperate the termites from the wood, by shaking and prodding the termites using a pine needle to poke them into a petri dish or cup where the can be dusted with vitamins or put directly into the tank.
