My new girl... (not me again! ;p)

triniian May 05, 2004 02:22 AM

I know you guys are probably tired of hearing from me... but I haven't actually posted a picture of her in the forum yet.

It's been a week since I got her and she's fit in her new home just great!

She's eating great and has no fear of being handled (not what I expected of BRBs her age!!). She's ~16" long and skinny as a twig!

One thing on my mind though, how much of a colour change do young BRBs go through into adulthood? I know what the parents look like, but her coloring is more purplish than a bright red, brown, or orange. I guess I'll have to wait and find out. She's still the most gorgeous snake in my collection and I'm happy that I decided to add her to the group!

Thanks guys...

Sorry for the lousey quality.

but from my experience, no one on this forum ever gets tired of hearing from enthusiastic epicrates keepers...nor do they tire of photos...and that is an exceptionally cute photo.

as for the color change...jeff clark answered that in an earlier post. he said it is very difficult to anticipate their appearance as adults...even when you know what the parents look like. preety adults usually produce preety babies. as mine babies have become adults...i've seen pink turn to orange and brown...i've seen red stay red...orange turn brown and red...so on and so forth.

i guess what makes this species one of my favorites is the fact that i've never seen one that i didn't find visually appealing.

keep posting pictures, chris

Ian, she looks great. It's nice to see she went to such a good home. Like Jeff has said it is definately hard to tell what they will grow up to look like, but for referrence here is a bad picture of her daddy(I am certainly no photographer. LOL)

Thank you for the positive comments...

Don't worry... my new digital camera will ensure many more pictures for times to come.

Also, I am at a point where I can currently no longer expand my colony. The cost of feeding, together with the need to expand my BCI's housing means that my interests have to be channelled to more cost effective things.

I find that learning as much as I can about different species brings about an very strong desire to add them to my collection, so for the time being I will be worrying about perfecting housing for my small group and updating my website.

I know my site is a little lacking on the BRB content, but as they say - I save the best for last!

I guess I have some more questions for you experts - adult coloration is rather hard to tell... so what about white sidings? Do those juveniles with high-white sidings retain them into adulthood? Example follows...

My aunt has an adult male BRB (my inspiration) that is a solid, bright red with only black patterning and no white or other coloration at all... Mine has tons of white and I like the white a lot! Just curious so thanks for the info.

Anywho, thanks again, I hope to see many more RB pics from the rest of you. Feel free to comment on my site some more if you get bored. I have taken note of those who have been kind and helpful and will be including them when possible!

Ciao.
