Lost 15 children's python eggs due to stupidity

gretzkyrh4 May 05, 2004 01:46 PM

Hi all,
I had seen my snakes locked up back in early december and found a fresh shed from my female upon returning from home after christmas, but then never noticed any signs of the female being gravid, so after watching her for a while just dismissed the possibility. Anyway, after 2 weeks of limited contact with my animals due to the chaos that is the end of my semester, I went to clean the children's cage and found 15 dried up eggs. So at the moment I am very dissappointed in the fact taht I did not realize my female was gravid. Especially considering the clutch consisted of 15 good sized eggs. Anyway, any suggestions on what to look for next year, so that I don't manage to miss the signs of her being gravid next year.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
If you saw your snakes locked up, i would have supplied a laying box anyway. I guess this is fairly obvious after the fact, but i would say that supplying one and not getting any turnouts is better than loosing 15 viable eggs.
