Ambilobe Disposition

chameleoncrow May 05, 2004 01:58 PM

We all know that each panther chameleon has its own personality and temperament. That being said, I've read somewhere, which i wish i could recall, that ambilobes tend to be more aggresive and feisty in its' behavior. Can anybody else concur with this?

As far from my own personal experience, my ambilobes are far more feisty compared to my other panthers, save for one mean Ambanja giant female i have.

What about you other guys who have had expereince keeping ambilobes. What is your take? Vince, Mat, Ivan ...and anybody else? Do share.

Hi,

All of the ambilobes here are pretty calm. Most were a bit fiesty as sub adults, but as they got older they seemed to tolerate me more.

The nosy be males are the mean ones here. Most, even as adults still try to bite me.

I guess everyone has different experiences.

Hi Chameleoncrow:

Keep in mind that this is my opinion as I do not want anyone else thinking these are facts or anything like it.
Chameleons are highly antisocial by nature and not very fond or human interaction so to me, the more aggressive they are the better breeders and better pets they are. I do not handle them ever therefore I let them be the way they would naturally be. I have had some tame Ambilobes but they seem to be more the exception to the rule than the norm. Most of the Ambilobes I have had or have (which are a pretty large number of specimens) are naturally aggressive towards humans. I have witnessed them to be the meanest of all panther locales so far, unless of course the Nosy Mitsios are meaner which I wouldn't know.

If yours are mean, I would say to let them be mean. In my experience they tend to be better breeders and better captives that the oners that are tame but this is NOT a fact but an opinion based on experience.

Good luck with your guys,
Ivan
