We need a little more info... What is the size of your WD? What is the cage size and environment like? Usually WD's will bang the glass when their viv is too small. They also like some sight closure so the side panels you added should help. I don't think they see glass real well, if at all so size is important to make sure they have enough room and feel comfortable.

Not true,my bro has an Eastern Collard Lizard in a 75g and it bangs its nose on the glass.

It can see its reflection so you will have to cover the whole cage for awhile or use a wood cage.

It is true with a water dragon, the problem usually is a tank that is too small.

:-/ maybe the cage is too small .. its a 20g high (24.5L 13.5D 16.5H) hes maybe 8 inches not sure on the h-v maybe i have too much stuff in it I'll try to take a picture and atatch it later

MrGreen May 05, 2004 07:30 PM

In my opinion a 20g is way too small even for a baby. I wouldn't go less than a 55g although a 35g may be ok for just a little while. I bet you increase the size of the viv and everything will be fine.

I always kept my babies in a 55 gallon tank until they were big enough for my 350 gallon cage. Even in a 55 gallon tank they would get restless at about 12-14 inches long and start rubbing and clawing at the glass.

I 've kept babies in a 20 gl for short periods of time when finding homes for new hatchlings etc. If they are kept in a small evironment for then a month or so, you will see some developmental problems, tail ends will drop off, arms and legs can become dislocated from lack of use. Definitely not a good idea for a growing WD.

Okay well im taking your advice and making a bigger cage... the dimesions are 28L 16D 35H sounds good? Also if i wanted to use a dirt substrate of some kind what would you recomend? Also would this be big enough for more than one dragon?
thanks - chris

Thats not big enough for one dragon, at least not permenantly. You need to think more in the 6x4x2 foot range.
