Stressed Leo?

leomomdiana May 05, 2004 03:45 PM

My leo Roxy is about 1 1/2 years old. We had her in a 20 long until last week. Our fish died, so we cleaned out their tank and created a great tank for Roxy, it's a 55 gal. Ever since we moved her in there, all she does is stay in her hide. Every movement she hears, scares her. She of course is not even interested in eating. She never was the type of leo that likes being held either. The temps are fine, just like in her old tank. Just wondering if she'll snap out of it soon. I guess she really doesn't like change!
Also, I have a hard time keeping her humid hide "humid". It's more damp than anything. I have it over the warm side, above the UTH, but it never gets warm. It's a plastic dish, one of those Gladware things, with moss inside. I spray it down with hot water and the substrate in the tank is sand. Any ideas? Thanks

How long has Roxy been in her new enclosure? Sometimes it can take a week or two for them to feel comfortable and safe in their new environment. Try to just leave her alone for awhile and let her come out after dark to explore. Also, if you are using the same UTH from the smaller tank in your larger one, it may not be warm enough. Check the temperature using a thermometer right on the surface (belly temperature) on the warm side.

It will be a week this Sunday. I just feel bad because everytime I go in that room she runs and hides so I feel like I have to sneak around! Anyway, I did check her temps and they are fine. I actually have 2 UTH, one is really small though so about 1/3-1/4 of the tank is warm. I keep a clear dish in there with mealworms but she's still not eating. She never did eat out of a dish, but I keep trying. She usually has to have the thing right in her face before she becomes interested.
In the mean time I'll try to be patient and hope she comes around. Thanks
Diana
