Sam's Vet Visit

Becki71 May 05, 2004 03:51 PM

Hi! Sam is doing great!!!! I am so happy. He went for his checkup today to see if the respitory infection was gone. He is active, eating well, has gained 4 grams since his last visit! He is done with his shots. The vet says we need to keep him warm for a few more weeks just to be safe. It seems like he is going to pull through. We were pretty worried there for awhile. Ella is doing better. We have been keeping her extra warm also..she has not had any shots. We are hoping with soaking her twice daily and keeping her temp up she will fight this off without having to take any meds. She seems much better also...eating more and a lot more active. (keeping fingers crossed). The vet told me to keep the heat goine 24 hours a day. She said little ones this young just can't handle the low 70's at night. So we will go ahead and keep the heat emitter on at night until they are older and can tolerate the cooler temps at night.
Only thing that worries me is she recommended feeding him some sort of protein like tofu or boiled eggs. I heard that is not good to do! Any suggestions? Thanks for all your support!

Forget the tofu or eggs. What you are feeding is fine. Concentrated protein like that will just be hard on his digestive system, and it won't make him any healthier.

You might want to ask the vet as to why you should feed the higher protein items. It sounds like the vet knows what they are doing and the added protein might have some sort of theraputic value to aid in its recovery.
I'd go with the Tofu for a little while until the little guy was at 100%.

Now I'm tempted to try and feed tofu to my torts to see if they'll actually eat the stuff. Reminds me of when my son was a baby and would eat almost anything; I popped a little piece of tofu in his mouth to see if he liked it and he promptly spit it out all down his front. Personally, I like tofu.

Not that I'm changing my original answer, you understand...
