we know people have done it...but there is a small market for it and nobody cares. as far as the ball python, most have told me its female from 5 scales. So I am going to try again later and get a more accurate count.

2-4 is normally female anything above is normally a male most males probe closer to 7-10 scales but i have never known a female ball python to probe out that deep in my experience females usually only probe to 2 or 3 scales but hey anything is possible

Mark petros told me his guess is female and another person in the ball forum said they have a 5 scale female too that was popped to be sure. Thats why its iffy and i am checking again and making a good count on both sides...i am aware of how ball pythons probe but thank you for the response. I love this forum because there is so much variety..right now, my guess is male too but i really think it needs another look.

when i first got into snakes someone told me to check the spurs on a ball python which i have learned checking the spurs works on some snakes but then i bought a ball python looked at it and discovered that it has one huge spur on one side and a tiny barely visible spur on the other side and thought hmm i wish i could show that person who told me to check spurs this snake i probed the snake and it was a female

Hi-

It may have been my post that you saw with the greenXyelllow anaconda cross. I have a male (6 ft), and it is my understanding that only two people have been able to produce these (NERD and a private breeder). There is, in fact, not a large interest in these, though I had always wanted one. I love and have kept both species, and think the mix of traits is very interesting. My take on it is that this is a hybridization that does occur in the wild on occasion since their ranges overlap, and therefore, I see nothing particularly wrong with it. As long as both pure species are preserved, I see no harm done. He is a great snake, and is a sweet as can be...never threatens or strikes at all, even though I sometimes go a week or more without holding him! This is more that I have heard from ANY of the other yellowXgreen crosses that exist (they have a rep for being very agressive, even more so than agressive individuals of either pure species). In my opinion, I have a thing against crossing snakes that would normally not come into contact, such as blood pythons and ball pythons, being from different continents. However, that is MY opinion, and many would disagree with it. I do feel that other than reproducing this uncommon, yet naturally-occuring hybrid, anacondas have not been subjected to the "morph" craze, or man-made snake fad. For this I am grateful, and as for my snake, I think he is as cool as they get...a perfect representation of the unique traits of both anaconda species! He seems to have take more yellow genes with respect to size, and has the ability to change from the very dark coloring of a green to a light mustard yellow in front of your eyes! It's amazing.

Brian
