ball python soaking all the time. normal?

hellfirefanatic May 05, 2004 05:35 PM

I'm a newbie ball python owner (and a girl one at that :P) and my baby ball python (few months old) keeps soaking herself in her water bowl. i just wanted to know if it was normal for ball pythons to like to soak alot. (i already have her treated for mites)

what are your temps? humidy level?

the snake may be too hot and is trying to cool down.

what do you mean you had it treated for mites? if the snake had them, it still could and that is how the snake will try and get rid of them. They can do a good job too. That is a big reason ball pythons will soak a lot.

I have a male and a female and they are now 2+ yrs old. They both will soak and I know the temps and humidity are correct. I have found out that when mine are ready to shed they will soak a lot. My female is now soaking and she just finished ovulating; her color has turned dark and I can tell she is ready to shed. Your baby might be ready to shed so consider that along with the other suggestions. It could be too warm so check the temps and the humdity. Don't get overly concerned because there is so much that you will learn just by observing your snake. Nature has a way of helping the snakes out, when we don't know what's wrong just watch them.
Good luck
