Handling tips for aggresive carpet pythons

rocknut May 05, 2004 05:44 PM

Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips as far as removing a large jungle carpet python for its cage. I have one female that I could never really tame down as a juvie, and now I just have no clue as to how to get her out of her cage. I have had more experience with larger ground pythons, (cover up the head, and scoop them out...) But with her, she just explodes as soon as I open her cage, and hangs on to her perch with her back 1/3. I have always been able to clean her cage, etc. while shes eating, but I have sold her, and actually need to remove her now. Any tricks? Thanks in advance.

Put a VERY inviting hide box that has a hole on the top. Wait for her to crawl in, then seal the hole and move the hide box wherever you want. Carpets are inquisitive. They will check out a hide box within 12 hours of putting it in.

Depending on the size, you can use welders gloves to grab the snake. Make sure that you wear long sleeves though.
