We recently got this turtle and wasn't sure what kind it is. He is about 4-5 inches long and about 3 inches wide.

The specimen is a species of Mud turtle. Looks to me like a yellow mud turtle (Kinosternon flavascens)

Im not sure now, it may also be a Loggerhead musk turtle

It's definately not a yellow mud turtle, my guess is either an eastern mud turtle, or a really old, faded 3 stripe mud.

plastral shot will at least narrow it down
hinge count and scute count needed.

I did'nt think the Eastern has the barbels. K. Hirtipes perhaps? A location would be helpful.

I live in colorado and bought the turtle at a local pet store cause he had a twisted leg and I felt sorry for the little guy. He is only about 4-5 inches long and 3 inches wide. I bought him as a softshell, but know that's not what he is. I have no idea where he came from. I can get a more accurate description later when I get off work. He's always looked just"brownish with no identifiable pattern. His plastron is a yellowish color. I can get some more pics later also.

Thanks for all the help!
