corn snake guy, lookin' for new snake...

cmsuphoto May 05, 2004 08:03 PM

Just wanted some info on Rainbow Boas. First off, I've been breeding corn snakes for a few years now, and they are small, simple, and good tempered little snakes. Questions are basic, since I know a thing or two about snakes. First, size. How big does a rainbow boa get? What's the temp and humidity range? Do they get snippy? Corns have that reputation, so I hear. I personally think that Rainbow Boas are amazingly beautiful, and I like the fact that they don't lay eggs. How many babies do they have at once? How hard are they to breed?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

p.s. Anyone looking for baby corns, I should have a bunch in two months. This pic is one of the mommies. Sorry for the non-boa pic on a boa site!

if you mean "brazilian" rainbows...

-average adult size ranges from 5-6 feet.

-as with moast snakes...unacclimated young can be a little defensive...but quickly become very docile, trustworthy pets.

-mid 70's to mid 80's is a good temp. gradient for brazilians.

-a high relative humidity is a must. i shoot for 80% - i like to use a rubbermaid hide box full of damp moss...they seem to really enjoy it.

-as you know, they are live bearing...10-30 neonates...but i believe 15-20 is reasonable.

good luck, chris
