Russian Tortoise Heating/lighting

Gpoop May 05, 2004 08:25 PM

Hi, I'm planning on getting a russian tort and have a question about heating and lighting. First I have a turtle table whitch is 3' by 2' by 2'.I bought a reptisun bulb that brings the temp to 76 F and a basking spot at 80 F. Should the temps be higher?

That sounds fine to me. I've had my Russians about 10 years and that's about the same as mine except my cooler end of the indoor pens are about 70. My Russians are outside May through Sept. Also my indoor cages are larger than yours 4x2. I seperate my male and female indoors.

Just wanted to add that russiantortoise.org is the best source for information on the care of your Russian Tortoise.

I'd bring the basking spot up to 90-95. My russkies love to bask in a hot spot. As long as there are cooler areas (76 is just fine) they will move around as they see fit.

When outdoors my russians tolerate temps between 40 and 105, as long as they have a place to get out of the elements.

Monitor the temperatures as your house heats and cools over the seasons.

And I like www.russiantortoise.org, too.
