What a difference!!!!!!!!

RedQuake May 05, 2004 08:39 PM

Now everyone knows i love my leos. I do and i wouldn't trade them for anything.....

But i must say there is a HUGE difference between them and my AFT's. Most of my leos aren't keen on handling....They freak out even with trying to handle them often. Most won't even allow me to stick my hand in the tank without freaking out and hiding.

My AFT's on the other hand are so calm in my hands and will sit there or curl up around my finger. I'm in total awe of how they accept handling so well. They don't freak out when i pick them up or anything.

I'm a bit confused though. I mean i've been working with my leos with handling and still none of them will remain calm. Its frustrating for me cause i'd like to be able to have the same experience with the leos as i do now with the aft's.

Is there a trick to handling leos?

3 are full adults, 2 subs, and 2 are babies. out of those 7 the only one adult, adn one baby dont like to be held. the other 5 will crawl right up on my hand. my trick is just spending alotta time with them. i hold all my animals every time im just sittin around, and doin nuttin.

None of mine will climb up on top of me when i offer my hand. For the most part they all run and when i do handle them they freak out and try to make a run for it. I'm always worried they will get away from me and end up hurt from a fall. I try to handle them as much as i can but it doesn't seem to be getting any easier.

I have found the Leopards tend to differ in personality.
I have some that don't mind being handled, but usually tend to be walking off. That is how most of mine are, some being a little friendler, some more interested in doing thier own thing.
I only have a few that hide from me, and don't particually like to be handled, Then I have one female that waves her tail at me if I even look in her direction and darts around if I try to get her.
I need a few AFT, hope I get some later this year.

AFT are sweet little guys...very docile and 'almost' cuddly. Ha!

They are my favorite geckos..(Though, I love Serendipity and the Hellspawn flat-tail...)

I think i have a grumpy bunch LOL, a few of them wave their tails at me if i come near them. Bronx, Lily for example are absolutely misrable most times. The ones that will tolerate me being near them won't stay in my hands for long.

Its actually very odd to have such a difficult time with my leos and such a easy time with my aft's. Its frustrating cause i'd like to have the same type of relationship with all of them

I had the same thing happen with my one of leos it would run and hide the second i put my hand in she would run so what i did was i took out her main hide(the one she is usually in)and i would put my hand in palm down and after awhile she started to crawl on top of it and after about a week of doing this i started to lift my hand and she would stay on and it went on from there.

One weird thing I have noticed is the difference in my leo's personalities acccording to morph. All of my normals are very tame and will crawl up onto my hand whenever I offer it, however, my tremper albinos won't let me get near their cage without freaking out. I just thought it was unusual...anyone else have this experience?

RedQuake May 06, 2004 10:43 AM

now that i think about it Boo, my normal male is alot more interested in me than the rest. Bronx, my blizzard male is just plain crabby, Lily my patternless is high strong and i see her waving her tail now and then if someone else in the tank walks on her or pushes her aside to get into a hide. I can't usually get close enough to her to get her in my hand.

Most of my leos weren't held as babies.......honestly i was to scared of them jumping off so for the most part i didn't hold them. Now that i'm trying to its hard. I have tried daily to get them used to me and while they were all separated in their own tanks things were much better, but now that i've grouped them together it seems they just aren't interested.

Coco my newest female is just plain freaked out if anything moves around her. The breeder took her out and held her but i try and she runs. She will take food from me so thats a start. Most of my geckos will take food from meso i'm happy for that at least
