At what point should i start to freak???

RedQuake May 05, 2004 09:12 PM

I just had Flame out holding her......she sat there for a few minutes but didn't want to stay very long. In the process i got a good look at her tummy and she has eggs. I knew this already as i could see she was very fat. But its been almost 4 weeks since she last laid (unless i've missed some eggs......Oh my what a horrible thought!!!).

I check the tank every day and i haven't noticed her digging at all.

I haven't noticed any laying behaviours since i moved her into the 40 gal with the other 3 females so..........

Could she be holding on to the eggs cause shes freaked by the other geckos? I've seen her curled up with Bubbles so i doubt it but i'm open to anything.

Now that i've thought about it, i'm absolutely freaked out that i might have missed some eggs. Theres a few spots where the caves i made curl around and i can't see in well. I'm going to remove all of the geckos from the tank and check again.

If that comes up negative and she hasn't laid any should i be soaking her to try to get her to lay? She has stopped eating so thats a good sign right?

Thanks for the input

in my experience *which is not soo long anyway..but hope it helps*..leopards don't eat about 24-72 hours prior to laying..im surprised you haven't seen any laying behavior cuz mine always digs like crazy and makes a mess...i usually seperate my female before she lays...well...i keep them all seperate except breeding time..and i alternate breeding every other year not to tire out my female...but i hope u didn't miss any eggs and that this clutch would be nice and fertile!

Thanks

I'm pretty sure i didn't miss any eggs. I can't find any at all and Flame is notorious for laying out on the tile instead of in the humid hide.

In any case i hope she lays soon, i'd be really upset if she became egg bound and died!!!! She's staying away from the other girls and i have tanks available so i'll set one up tomorrow and move her so she can have some privacy. Maybe that will help

What position do they get into when they lay? She's currently sitting with her upper body raised up (holding herself up with her front legs) while her back end is flat against the ground on the warm side.

I've never seen a gecko lay but i'm wondering if this is typical of one thats about to lay?

Thanks

when they lay *ive actually had the privelage of seeing it*...they prop themselves WAY UP..kinda like when they are pissed and wag their tails?...and then the tail goes way up..like when they breed...and its a miracle to see how darn pig their vents get when the eggs come out..it looks mighty painful!
