Hi guys, I think this is my first time posting here on the ig forum, but I got a question bout Taco. She is over 9 years old, and i just recently found out that my friend has a male ig, about 6, is she too old to try and mate with him, or not? If she is young enough, how should i go about doing this?? thanks!

First of all why would you want to breed her? There is no market for baby green iguanas and they can lay up to 60 eggs in one clutch...so I wouldnt bother...and I believe she would be too stressed at her age to breed anyways...Lyn

Considering that iguanas are abandoned at almost the same rate as dogs and cats WHY would you want to breed her?!?!?!?!?! That is bordering on irresponsible.

In addition to the lack of a need for more babies igs, females can be seriously hurt during breeding - the males are not gentle. They also run the risk of egg rupture during egg-laying in captivity - this is fatal to the female ig. If you care about your ig, you will not pursue mating.
