I am looking at this species as an addition to my collection. The thing is, I know nothing about them. I read a couple posts down about them. Do any of you guys have websites on them? I am interested in natural husbandry and ecology of this species.... and pics are appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Ps. I mainly work with Boa constrictors, and am looking for a large(10ft max) docile python. Do papuans fit this?

Looking for articles on Boa constrictor constrictor, Imperator, and Varanus(Specically the V. olivaceus and V. Salvadorii)

if youre looking for a docile python that maxes out around 10 feet papuans arent what you want. these are big snakes, they hold the record as far as length of a new guinea snake, 16 feet 10 inches. they are beautiful pythons, and can be docile, but averae 12 feet or more. they are a handful when they get larger, hanging onto things very well with their tails.

husbandry is pretty straight forward. 78 to 85 and a basking spot of around 92 works well with these pythons. they also require large cages, and are active. they will survive fine with minimal cage spraying, but, they are a high humidity python, and rather than comprimising the ventilation they also need, its easiest to meet the humidity needs with a plastic box filled with moist moss. feeding is rarely a problem.
